U.S. States: Virginia: Franklin County
Trying to pin down who the father of Harriett and Richard Claughton is. Probably locations include Franklin County, VA and Lunenburg County, VA. There are several possibilities which I will note below:
There is a Richard Claughton enumerated in the 1830 Virginia census residing in Alleghany County, VA. This census indicates 4 daughters and a wife. Harriet would have been born after this census.
World Family Tree Volume 3, Pedigree 3233 shows a R.A. Claughton marr Susan Camper
Lunenburg County, VA Order Book 24 (1821-1823):
9/19/1821: Richard Alexander Claughton of the county of Prince Edward labourer charged with feloniously stealing taking and carrying away a grey horse about 5-6 years of age. Valued at $150 from Joel Johns of Lunenburg County. Found Guilty.
Lunenburg County, VA Order Book 16, page 334:
November 1793: On the motion of Jonathan Patterson and David Stokes, securities for Mildred Claughton, wife of James Claughton, who was formerly Mildred Murrell, guardian of James Murrell, orphan of her former husband, James Murrell deceased. It is ordered that summons issue against the said James Claughton and Mildred his wife to give counter security according to law.
Lunenburg County, VA Order Book 16, page 403:
June 1794: James Claughton appeared agreeable to summons to give counter security for the indemnity of his former securities, whereupon he together with Thomas Cralle entered into bond according to law.
Lunenburg County, VA Order Book 16, page 73:
June 1798: It is ordered that Richard Claughton be summoned to July court to show cause whether he will administer on the estate of John Claughton deceased, his late son.
Lunenburg County, VA Order Book 16, page 105:
September 1798: On the motion of Richard Claughton, administration is granted him on the estate of John Claughton, deceased, whereupon he gave bond with approved security according to law.
Lunenburg County, VA Order Book 16, page 106:
September 1798: A deed of gift from Richard Claughton to his wife was acknowledged and ordered to be recorded.
Lunenburg County, VA Order Book 16, page 110:
October 1798: An inventory and appraisement of the estate of John Claughton deceased was this day returned and ordered to be recorded.
Lunenburg County, VA Order Book 16, page 169:
May 1792: Thomas Cralle indebted to estate of John Claughton 8 pounds, 1 shilling, 7 pence halfpenny.
