I am searching for information concerning Musco Wright, who was born ca. 1750/51 in Virginia, most likely in Essex County. He married Mary ( maiden name unknown ) and by 1785, they had 3 children. Musco Wright enlisted in the 10th Virginia Regiment and was a private in the 2nd. VA. brigade, 5th division, under Capt. Richard Stevens, in Feb. and Mar., 1778 during the Revolutionary War. While at Valley Forge, PA., he deserted, and joined the First Battalion of PA. Loyalists in the King'a American Regiment and he enlisted with them on April 26, 1778 in Philadelphia. After the war, he went to New Brunswick, Canada with his wife and 3 children and took up land grants there. Some of the names of his children were probably: Joseph Henry, Thomas, Caleb, Ann, Martin, and possibly Lewis, William, and James. There were no other Wright's that I could see with him when he fought with the Loyalists in his unit; however, he struck up deep friendships and seemed to have ties to the Grier and Field families. When he was in the 10th Virginia Regiment, in his unit also were Wright's named: John, Moses, Paul, Richard, William, Thomas, Robert, and Parsons. It is believed that his name came from the merger of 2 old families in Virginia...Muscoe and Wright. These families seemed to be connected to St. Anne's Parish, Essex County, VA. However, I've heard it said that the 10th Virginia Regiment was formed with soldiers from the western part of VA. I am in search of the birth or baptism record for Musco Wright, born ca. 1750/51. Also, a marriage record for him well before 1785, as he already had 3 children in 1785. His wife was Mary, maiden name unknown at this point. I gave his children's names above, and am searching for birth or baptism records for them. I don't know if there were census records going back before 1780 in Virginia? By April 26, 1778, he was out of the state, and his family possibly followed him to Pensacola, Florida. He had ties to the Field and Grier families during the war. And when he fought in Virginia, he may have been related to those Wright's I named above in some way...possibly brothers? Any help at all would be so very much appreciated! I think I've listed every clue that I could think of! Jean Mayo jeanmayo@comcast.net Notify Administrator about this message?
