STURT, SAMUEL GAIUS (VA, NY, ENGLAND)

According to family oral genealogy, Samuel G. Sturt,Sr. was born in England in 1820, arrived in NY, traveled up the Hudson to upstate NY to Oswego County. He met Sabra Eliza Ploss and married. Her father was a dairy farmer and gave them property and cows to start a farm. They stayed there for a number of years and relocated to Dinwiddie County Virginia about 1899-1908. At the time of their move, at least one of their sons, Samuel Gaius Sturt, II, was of legal age and married Lillie Frances Miles of Dinwiddie County. They were married in Washington D.C. on 1/6/1909. She is my grandmother. It was rumored that SGS, Jr. had previously been married in upstate NY, but I haven't a clue who his wife was and if there were any children of this marriage.
I know NOTHING of the Sturt family beyond this information. I'm extremely interested in locating the names of SGS, SR. parents in England, and if he had any brothers/sisters. What relation was he to Charles Sturt -- the well known Sturt that explored Australia? Another family member said that SGS, Sr. went to the docks in England to catch a boat to Australia, but it had already departed. The next ship leaving was for America, so he took that one to see what America was like before going further to Australia. I don't know if SGS, Sr. had previously been married and left a family in England.
Would be grateful for your help/guidance.
Thank you.
Lillie Frances H. Davis
