Collatinus Mason purchased land from Martha G. Warren along Old Stage Road in 1873-4. He became one of the early African-American preachers performing marraiges in the Dinwiddie County. I am trying to figure out where Collatinus came from? Was he always a free Black or was he manumitted? If anyone has lists of manumitted slaves in their family history that might contain his name, I would like to see it.
I am also interested in Martha G. Warren and her mother, Nancy Roberts. They seem to be large landholders in Dinwiddie until about 1880.
