According to Dinwiddie COunty, Carrefour of the Commonwealth, a book written by Richard Jones, and sponsored by the DInwiddie COunty Board of Supervisors in celebration of the bicentennial in 1976, Mossosoneck Creek, spelled a number of different ways, is the creek currently known as Rowanty. The Indian word Mossosoneck allegedly means Big Rocks.
