My husband's grandmother May Brodnax was the only child of Dr. Robert Withers Brodnax, a Petersburg physician. His middle name doubtless came from Ann Eliza Withers, b. 7 Dec 1795, who married Gen. William Henry Brodnax, whose final home was "Kingston" in Dinwiddie County. Wm Henry, by strong family tradition, was an ancestor, but here's the rub: I can't fill in the Brodnaxes between William Henry and Robert Withers.

Wm Henry died in 1834, and his children included three males but none named Robert. I don't have Robert W. Brodnax's DOB, but his daughter, May, was born on 13 Feb 1865. If Rob't was in his 30s when she was born, he couldn't have been Wm. Henry's son -- there has to be a generation (maybe two) in between, but neither nor the IGI can tell me who.

If anyone can help with this puzzle I'll be enormously grateful!
