Martha,

I will do so. One person has responded and says that it is extremely difficult to research at this courthouse. She says that the clerks working there both times I was there could have at least let me look at an index they have, but neither even mentioned this. The procedure there is just as I experienced, you can not see any records unless the clerk of court is present. No one is allowed in the archive room, you ask for specific record book, they bring it to you. Petersburg courthouse research will definitely be difficult for most "out-of-towners".At least some records are on microfilm at the Library of Virginia in Richmond. Marriage records only to 1910 there.
