Seeking information on the ancestry and descendants of Wm. Scott who moved to Morgan Co., IL 1830 from Wayne Co., KY. I believe he and his wife Seley R Scott moved to Morgan Co. to be close to Scott relatives who had moved earlier to Sangamon Co. from Cumberland Co., KY.

Wm. Scott, b. 1755, enlisted in the VA militia in 1780 as a resident of Cumberland Co., VA. During the war he fought in many battles that took him up and down the east coast. In the early 1800's he moved from Wythe Co., VA to Wayne Co., KY where he remained until the move to Morgan Co., IL where he d. Oct. 1836.

He m. ca. 1778 a dau. of Thomas Ayers who d. 1816 Patrick Co., VA. Seley R. Scott may have been a second wife, as that name doesn't fit the names of Thomas Ayers' known daughters: Jane, Elizabeth, and Phoebe.

Wm. Scott had an uncle Wm. Scott who d. 1789 Orange Co., VA. This uncle named the following siblings in his 1786 will: brothers John; Thomas; and George who was deceased by 1786; sisters: Patience Morton, wife of Richard Morton, and Barbara Griffin, wife of Wm. Griffin. I believe that Wm. Scott, b. 1755 was a son of either John or Thomas Scott. Some of these people lived in Pr. Edward Co., VA.

Is anyone aware of a Scott family possibly living in Cumberland Co., VA ca. 1780 in which Wm. Scott would fit? Wm. may be a son of a Thomas Scott, b. ca. 1730, d. 1770 Pittsylvania Co., VA. Any evidence of him in Cumberland Co., VA 1780?
