I can tell you, perhaps, very little about this family but, here goes:
William Sanderson, was born in King William Co., Virginia. He died April 28, 1781, probably in Cumberland County. His wife Ann died in 1812.

Their son Robert Sanderson was b. September 18, 1772. Other issue: William, Damiel, John E., Sarah (Sanderson) Foster, Nancy, Elizabeth, Mary, Lucy, and maybe, Susannah.

Robert d. 8/23/1846 he married Sara Merryman, who died 11/7/1837. This couple had issue: Virginia Marian, b. 11/11/1838, Robert William, b. abt. 1819, Ellizabeth A., b. 2/26 bet. the years 1826-1830, Margaret, b. 5/11/1832, John Archer,

Virginia, m. Thomas Hale Steger, of the C.S.A., he was b. 9/14/1824 in Powhatan, Co., Va., and d. 2/7/1903 buried in Mountain View Cemetery, Roanoke, Virginia. But, I am getting far from your questioned family.

The Steger family source record is the book "Descendants of Francis Epes I, of Virginia (Vol. II) by John Dorman - 1999. Some of the Sanderson family stuff comes from the same book, plus "A History of Thomas Chapel United Methodist Church" Carterville Va. (printed 1990 Farmville)
Good Luck!
