I have found several pieces of documentation for Joseph Sampson as a Revolutionary soldier on Ancestry.com.
Have you heard of McAllister's Mountain? It is mentioned in John Sampson's will of 1878. I am researching John/Mary Sampson--Joseph/Polly Sampson--John/Clarissa Sampson.
