States: Virginia: Culpeper
William Purvis, Jr. (1757-1835) of Culpepper Co., Virginia was married about 1781 to a woman whose Christian and surname are unknown. He farmed in Culpepper Co., Virginia for about fifteen years. Her surname might have been “Nalle” because William Purvis was a witness to the Last Will and Testament of Martin Nalle who signed on 9 March 1783 and probated on 15 September 1788. His first wife died on or before 1790-1791 because on 10 July 1792 in Culpeper Co., Virginia he married a second time to Jane Burk/Burke by the Reverend Lewis Corbin. By 1795, William Purvis, Sr. and his son, William Purvis, Jr. removed themselves from Culpeper Co., Virginia to Clark Co., Kentucky.
By 1797 both William Purvis, Sr. and Jr. are found in the Montgomery County Kentucky Tax Lists for 1797. Montgomery Co., Kentucky was formed into a county in 1797 and was originally part of Clark Co., Kentucky, therefore assuming before 1797 it was part of Clark Co., Kentucky then becoming Montgomery Co., Kentucky.
If at all possible I would like to find the name of William Purvis Jr. first wife and when they were married?
