I received handed down information this morning that 5 Holmes brothers left England for the United States about 1780. They stopped in Norway apparantly long enough for a couple of the brothers to marry there and then they all landed in Virginia. The first knowledge of them in the States is in Culpeper County. My line is through Jeams one of the five...only child of his I have knowledge about is Edmund who was born in Culpeper county in 1783.
Of course I would love to have more information!
The brothers were apparantly wealthy enough for the family to pursue their inheritance from the Bank of England...but by that time the funds belonged to the crown.
