Thanks for your response to my query on the Craig Co. Forum.
A John Leighton (20- 29 Age, There were three males in the residence in this age bracket.) appeared in the 1830 Alleghany Co. census. This was the first LEIGHTON in any Virginia census since 1810. Also, there weren't any LEIGHTON'S in the 1790 Federal Censes. There were LAYTON'S in the 1790, 1810, 1820, 1830 and 1840.
In the 1840 Alleghany Co. census in addition to John, there was an Isaac Leighton, (Over 29 years).
The Isaac, I believe was born in Nelson Co. in the 1880 census he gave his father's birth palce as England and his mother's birth place as Ireland.
Were they sliblings? The three males in the 1830 could have been John, Isaac and a Daniel B. (traced back from the 1850 census)
I have been trying to determine where these individuals were prior to 1830 -1840.
I have been plagued with the formation of Alleghany Co. in 1822.
I know Isaac was married in Botetourt Co. There were two John's married in Boterourt Co. One was my 2nd GGF.
Any Leighton's in Craig Co. 1790 - 1850, either Layton or Leighton would be of interest to me.
