Help with How to Proceed?

I hope someone can help me by providing information as to how to proceed in this situation.

Sarah Blanche Hannah, born Sept. 19, 1891 in Craig County, died Feb. 17, 1923 in Lincoln County, NC and is buried in the Hebron United Methodist Church Cemetery in Craig County. In the 1920 Census of New Castle, she is listed as single, living with her parents, James and Mary E. Hannah.

After the 1920 Census, she married a Robert Burdell, no other information known. The NC Death Collection, 1908-1996, listed her as Sarah B. Burdell, with death in Lincoln County.

Family lore is that Sarah was murdered, possibly in Charlotte, NC. At the State Library in Raleigh, NC, I searched a newspaper from Lincolnton, NC in Feb.-March, 1923 and found nothing. The Charlotte Observer for that period is out on Interlibrary loan.

I don't know where to look in or around Craig County for information. Assistance will be appreciated.
