hi

i had posted this post on the evans forum but because of my interest in my harris and goode families early in lunenburg co, va and with connections also to charlotte co, va, i also wanted to post this here.

i am still looking for other harris descendants of william and judith hudson harris to participate in the harris dna project.

i am interested in my harris family per their association with the evans, isbell, and other of these same individuals and families ca 1750+ in this lunenburg/ charlotte/ mecklenburg cos, va area.

per the cumberland parish, lunenburg co, va vestry records, there are these items that associate my william harris/ frances goode and william harris/ judith hudson with stephen evans

page 21: 1747, stephen evans and william harris down the creek to meet at coxes bridge over south meherrin and procession all the land between said river and main bluestone creek.

page 48: precinct # 25, not dated, but probably 1759, ordered that william harris/ finneywood and william harris peckerwood/ woodpecker and stephen evans to meet and to procession the land between the bluestone creek and the parish line and the roanoke river.

then, there are also these items also re stephen evans per lunenburg co, va patents:

page 785: william newsum patents 400 acres on the middle bluestone creek adjacent ragsdale's line, 1761, also 159 acres adjacent stephen evans and the branches of the bluestone creek.

page 826, william newsum patents 386 acres on middle bluestone creek on harris and cargill's lines, 1761.

first of all, can you identify who this stephen evans was per these lunenburg co, va processioning records and these lunenburg co, va patents?

was he the same stephen evans involved in the suit with james hall and ruth hall, who is indicated to have been ruth evans?

as shown below, i am also interested in their son james hall, per my interest in my judith hudson harris.

this was my william harris, sr, of finneywood creek, who married ca 1745 frances goode, daughter of mackerness goode, sr also of lunenburg/ charlotte co, va.

both my william harris, sr/ frances goode and their son, my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers, as well as my mackerness goode, sr and jr, had ca 1770 grants in now laurens co, sc in this same little river area of laurens/ newberry cos, sc. their patents can be found in the motes book re the saluda and little river settlements of laurens/ newberry cos, sc.

joseph davenport signed for the grant for my mackerness goode, sr and it was my mackerness goode, sr's son samuel goode, who married jemina davenport, daughter of joseph davenport who died 1788 in newberry co, sc and per his newberry co, sc will, joseph davenport named samuel goode as his son-in-law.

my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers died 1799 laurens co, sc. a john davenport was a purchaser at his estate sale. i cannot identify this john davenport but think he was probably related to joseph davenport.

i noted, ray, you are also interested in the davenports. can you identify who this john davenport would have been as a purchaser of my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers 1800 laurens co, sc estate sale?

the william harris of woodpecker creek was william harris/ judith hudson and i have been trying for years to learn and to confirm that my william harris of finneywood creek was their son, william, per my william harris/ judith hudson's 1778/ 1779 mecklenburg co, va will.

there is also info, which i hope you may be able to confirm, that james hall of amelia/ lunenburg/ mecklenburg co, va was the son of james hall and ruth evans, who was related to this stephen evans.

there is this mecklenburg co, va deed wherein my william harris/ frances goode sold land to james hall.

no dower was given but it was my william harris/ frances goode, who consistently sold land on the middle fork of the bluestone creek.

mecklenburg co, va deed book 1, page 14, 1765, william harris of mecklenburg to james hall of same for 15 pds, 30 acres on the south side of the middle fork of the bluestone creek, being part of a larger patent to william harris on the sawpitt branch and bounded by james hall. witnesses: jeremiah glenn; john marable; micajah smithson.

then, there is also this mecklenburg co, va deed that connects james hall with stephen evans and other of these same families in the woodpecker creek area of lunenburg/ mecklenburg co, va, which is also where my william harris/ judith hudson lived.

mecklenburg co, va deed book 2, page 486, 1770, charles burton of mecklenburg co, va to mark moore of same for 300 pds, 220 acres on both sides of the woodpecker creek bounded by henry hustin; charles lucas; james hall; stephen evans; richard lamkin; jeremiah lamkin; william hunt, being part of a 420 acre tract formerly belonging to manoah tinsley and being the said land that charles burton purchased of bryan cocar including the plantation whereon the said mark moore now lives. wit: jesse ragsdale; richard lamkin; thomas wilborne.

this thomas wilborne who witnessed the deed above re charles burton to mark moore was the son of john wilborn, wife, judith, who died 1757 luneburg co, va.

both my william harris/ frances goode; my william harris/ judith hudson; and also richard hudson, etc were involved in the will and estate of john wilborn 1757/ 1762 lunenburg co, va.

either my william harris/ frances goode or my william harris/ judith hudson became the guardian of susannah wilborn, daughter of john wilborn. i do not know what happened to her?

a john cox became the guardian of thomas wilborn but, as shown, per these lunenburg/ mecklenburg co, va deeds, thomas wilborn continued to live in this woodpecker creek area near my william harris/ judith hudson; james hall; stephen evans, etc.

mark moore was one of the executors of my william harris/ judith hudson's 1778 mecklenburg co, va will.

by or before 1785, mark moore had also moved to laurens co, sc with his brother-in-law peter ragsdale and laurens co, sc deeds connect my william harris, jr/ frances rodgers with mark moore and peter ragsdale in this same little river area with the same joel burgess family.

james hall moved to edgefield co, sc and died there in 1795 and, per the info, his daughter sarah hall married richard winn.

richard winn was involved with my judith hudson harris' estate 1796 mecklenburg co, va and i am trying to figure out why?

per the rootsweb info, etc, which is not always accurate, it is said that james hall had two wives named martha.

it says that his 1st wife was martha armistead and that his 2nd wife, who would have been the mother of sarah, who married richard winn, was this martha botts but------

i believe his 2nd wife, martha, may have been the daughter, martha, also of my william harris/ judith hudson, which would explain why richard winn was involved in the estate of my judith hudson harris in 1796 mecklenburg co, va.

in regard to the isbell family, we are participating in the harris dna project and my brother david harris is an exact match with descendants of edward harris, sr also of lunenburg/ charlotte co, va, whose sons stephen harris and edward harris, jr also moved to laurens co, sc.

there is a long lunenburg co, va deed which i will not cite, which indicates that in 1761, robert gilliam of prince george co, va sold to edward harris, sr 400 acres on twitty's creek and this was witnessed by henry isbell and richard ellis.

then, there are also these lunenburg co, va deeds that inter-connect henry isbell also with my william harris/ frances goode and all of these connections cited are more involved.

lunenburg co, va deed book 4, page 198, 1755, daniel malone and wife, sarah, to james sullivant and to henry isbell all of lunenburg co, va for 31 pds, 228 acres on branches of twitty's creek and bounded by col reade; bedford. witnesses: henry may; william jones; thomas bedford.

my william harris/ frances goode had a 1000 acre patent in lunenburg co, va in 1752 on the bluestone creek and in 1755, he sold 900 of these acres to william reade and this was also witnessed by the above william jones; thomas bedford; and robert wooding:

lunenburg co, va deed book 4, page 213, 1755, william harris of lunenburg co, va to william reade of same for 160 pds, 900 acres in lunenburg on the head branches of the bluestone creek and bounded by new lines; william tibbs; and william harris' old lines. witnesses: robert wooding; thomas bedford; william jones. frances, wife of william harris, relinquished her right of dower.

my william harris/ frances goode had an agreement in 1745 lunenburg co, va re the plantation finneywood with william marable wherein my william harris was overseer for about 3 years and probably before he began to acquire land of his own per patents, etc.

a suit ensued ca 1747 lunenburg co, va re my william harris/ frances goode with william marable and all of my frances goode harris' goode family, including her father, my mackerness goode, sr, gave depositions re this suit.

the john marable above, who witnessed this mecklenburg co, va deed re my william harris/ frances goode to james hall, was related to william marable and this robert wooding, who also witnessed this lunenburg co, va deed re my william harris/ frances goode to william reade, married mary marable, daughter of william marable.

i realize this is long and involved but if you or others can help with info re these families and these connections, i would really appreciate this.

thanks.
