I am researching the family of Richard Dabbs Sr. and
wife Elizabeth H. Foster (dau. of George Foster and
Mary Singleton), who lived in Charlotte Co. VA
in the late 1700s. Most of what I have is just names.
If anyone has any information they can contribute,
I would appreaciate it.

Richard and Elizabeth had the following children,
all born in Charlotte Co.:

*1. Joseph Dabbs b. c. 1760
2. Polly Dabbs b. 1763
*3. George(s) Dabbs b. 1764
*4. William R. (or Foster) Dabbs b. 1766
*5. Josiah Dabbs b. 1766
*6. Rev. Richard Jr. Dabbs b. 1770
7. Elizabeth Singleton Dabbs b. c. 1772
8. Nancy Dabbs b. 1774
9. James Dabbs b. 1776

I know only a little bit about the lines of their sons
Joseph, George(s), William, Josiah, and Rev. Richard Jr.:

1. Joseph Dabbs md. Judith Luck Tankersley about 1780 in VA
1.1 Joseph b. c. 1784
1.2 Richard
1.3 Samuel
1.4 Margaret (m. J. Pugh)
1.5 Croshian (m. John Jones)
1.6 Elizabeth (m. Walter Mitchell)
*1.7 John W. b. 1786 d. 1859, Henderson Co., TN

1.7 Joseph's son, John W. Dabbs, md. another Elizabeth Foster
on 20 Nov 1823 Halifax Co., VA.
Their children, all born in VA:
Albert Dabbs b. c. 1825
Lafayette Dabbs b. c. 1827 (found in Henderson Co. by 1850)
John Wilkes Dabbs b. c. 1828
Louisa Jarrett Dabbs b. 30 Aug 1830 in Charlotte Co.
Joseph Wilkes Dabbs b. c. 1832

3. George(s) md. Sarah Mitchell in 1786.
Children, all born in VA (list may not be complete):
William L.

Note: George ran a tavern in Charlotte Co. until 1823.
George's family then moven to Limestone Co., AL.
Son Edwin shows up in Hardeman Co., TN, in 1840,
and later in Fayette Co. TN. Edwin served as the
administrator to the estate of the Southern Abolitionist,
Joseph Dabbs, who freed his slaves in 1845 and moved
from Hardeman Co., TN, to Pope Co., IL, where he died.
Exactly how this Joseph and Edwin were related is uncertain.

Edwin's brother, Richard, might be the Richard Dabbs
who also shows up in Hardeman Co., TN, in 1826 (married to
one Elizabeth Harper). If so, this Richard died between
1845 and 1850, and his widow and family moved on to
Boone Co., AR in 1850. I have more details on them.

4. William Foster Dabbs md. Elizabeth Hatchett (or Hatchel) on
21 Oct 1789 in Charlotte Co., VA.
son Dabbs
daughter Dabbs b. c. 1803 in Charlotte Co., VA
son Dabbs b. c. 1805 in Charlotte Co., VA
daughter Dabbs b. c. 1807 in Charlotte Co., VA

Note: Some sources on William Foster Dabbs list children
Abner, Martha, Elizabeth H., Frances E., and Mary "Polly" Lee.,
all born between 1789 and 1807 in VA. William also apparently
had a second wife, Sarah Claybrook.

5. Josiah Dabbs md. Mary (Polly) Hannah, 17 Feb 1803 in VA
Samuel Henry Dabbs
Richard S. Dabbs
Mary Margaret Ann Dabbs
Janette Dabbs
Joseph Alexander Dabbs
Ann R. Dabbs
Andrew Hannah Dabbs b. 7 Mar 1807 in Charlotte Co. Va.
Julia Frances Dabbs b. 21 Nov 1829

6. Rev. Richard Dabbs Jr. md. Elizabeth Mitchell on 14 Feb 1793
in Charlotte Co.
Julia Dabbs
Lucy Dabbs
Elizabeth Dabbs
Thomas C. Dabbs
Henry B. Dabbs
John Randolph Dabbs b. Apr 1803
James R. Dabbs b. 6 Jul 1814
Joseph W. Dabbs b. c. 1817

If anyone connects to this family, I would like to hear
from them.
