In 1687, David Davidson died in James City Co., VA (JCCo), and his wife was a Sarah Unknown. David Davidson was born in Holland, per his surviving naturalization papers, and he had owned land in JCCo by at least 1682 (per a deed in the early-1700s when his son, who was also named David Davidson ("II"), finally came to own his father's land). This land had been patented originally by the Cowles family. This Davidson land in JCCo (just west of the Chicahominy River) became part of Charles City Co., VA (CCCo) in 1720 (an area called "Pease Hill").

In 1688, William Hunt helped the widow Sarah Davidson with the settlement of the estate of her deceased husband (i.e., the estate of the older David Davidson "I"), as did a Thomas Hamblin, and I have always wondered if this Mrs. Sarah Davidson was perhaps a Hunt descendant (maybe even a daughter of William Hunt and his wife Sarah, IF the salient dates support that as a possibility).

In the 1760s, a Benjamin Dancy wrote his will in Charles City Co., VA, and he instructed a Mr. Edloe to arrange for Benjamin's niece, a Mary Davidson, to have a female slave for the rest of her life. This Mary Davidson was (or had been) married to Solomon Davidson (he died late-1760s or so, it appears), and my research indicates that Solomon Davidson was a likely son (or other close relative) of the second David Davidson mentioned above (David Davidson "II" died in CCCo in 1756....the wife of this second/younger David Davidson is not known).

There were also Edloes over in Surry Co., VA, and it appears that these folks were all part of the same overall Edloe family. There was also a William Davidson and his son Thomas Davidson over in Surry Co., VA, but so far, I have no proof that they were or were not related to "my" Davidsons in CCCo.

Note: In addition to the above-referenced David Davidson "I" who died in JCCo in 1687 (per a court order book record), a William Davidson also died in JCCo that same year (per a Bruton/Middleton Parish record). I do not know how/if these two men were related, and I do not know if some of the later Davidson men in JCCo and/or CCCo were descendants of William versus David (versus both). Is strongly suspect, however, that these two men were related, and looks like the named "David" and "William" were used many times by this overall Davidson family in subsequent generations.

A likely branch of my mother's Smith family in VA has a "Bowler connection." Colonel Francis Smith of Essex Co., VA, son of Captain Nicholas Smith, married first Lucy Meriwether. The Colonel's second wife, however, was Anne Adams. Anne Adams was a daughter of Ebenezer Adams and his wife Tabitha Cocke and the grandddaughter of Richard Cocke "III" and his wife Anne Bowler. Anne Bowler was supposedly the daughter of Thomas Bowler and Tabitha Underwood.

I would appreciate your comments on any of the above, especially the possibility that the wife of David Davidson "I" might have been a Hunt. By the way, there was a Samuel Hunt who fought in the Rev. War and settled in Cumberland Co., VA. He lost both of his hands, but I don't know if that was "war related" or not. There was a later Mr. Hunt in Cumberland Co., VA who married one of my Davidsons there in the early-1800s. Do you have any idea if this Hunt family in Cumberland Co., VA was also out of Charles City Co., VA?

Also, does anyone know if any of the William Hunts discussed in your post was related to the Pastor Robert Hunt who was at Jamestown? As I recall, Reverend Robert Hunt was married to a Cobb(s) woman, and his wife was the sister of Ambrose Cobbs, the immigrant for this Cobbs/Cobb family in America (and Cobb Co., GA is named for this family). One of my Davidsons married Ann Hamner Cobbs from this overall family in 1827 in Bedford Co., VA.
