I show a Joseph Quivers, 9 mos old in the 1850 Virginia census, Henrico County. I believe he was taken to California by his father, Emanuel Quivers, in that same year. I am not aware of any Quivers in Alabama, and I think Joseph Quivers remained in California. Can you tell me in what specific records you found Joe Quivers listed? This is a very unusual surname, and I haven't found any listings to date that I cannot trace back to the Quivers originating at the Berkeley Plantation in Virginia.
