Dear Ron: Thank you seems very weak for such a great response and so much information. I guess the family didn't do any obituaries? You have quite a bit of death record information - did they have parent information on any of them? How did you learn that James B. was (1) born in Franklin Co. VA and (2) died in Mecklenburg Co. VA? Also you have a dau. Frances Elizabeth Henley for this family - I've never seen that anywhere. On the 1820 census in Franklin Co. VA "Betsey Hendley" had two daughters and four sons only. I identified those daughters as Miriam and Melinda. (Most researchers didn't know about Melinda).
I tried to see which Hall family you are from as Melinda Henley married Thomas P. Hall in VA around 1828 (I believe she was barely 16) - they are on the 1830 census in Franklin Co. VA with 2 females born before 1830. I haven't found their marriage record - someone directed me to Surry NC but haven't checked there yet. (Her brother married there). Thomas P. Hall was born about 1805 I assume in Franklin Co. VA - I have a researcher working several Hall families that were on the 1820 census record in Franklin Co. VA that had sons of the appropriate age.
Melinda Henley's family included Dodds and Poteets and I have records of Poteet deeding land to John Hall in Henry Co. VA in 1782 - John Hall son of Rev. Nathan Hall of Lunenburg Co. VA married Prudence Poteet. Since they all ended up in Patrick/Franklin County I felt they were probably all from the same families (many of my lines didn't look very far for wives - usually family gatherings!). Thomas P. Hall and Melinda Henley moved to Kanawha Co. VA in early 1840's. Just wondering if you might also be related to my Hall lineage. Again, thank you for all your help. Sincerely, Rose Mary S. Rudy
