I have a copy of the book you mention "Smythers-Forebears and decendents" 1998 Edition. It is full of errors. For one thing it has informtion prior to Stephen Smythers that I am trying to verify and it goes back to England circa 1700. Since I found so many errors in this book I don't have any confidence in it. I have incorporated the information in a genealogy and will be happy to send it to you. Briefly it says:

William Smythers b 1700. He lived in England and had 2 sons who came to America in 1760.

Robert Smythers b 1735 married Keziah b 1776 ****

Sir William Smythers b 1737

Thomas Smythers b 1803 m Jane b 1802(Franklin Co. 1860 census)

Bluford Smythers b 1810(Wythe Co. 1850 Census)
m Polly b 1815
Bluford Smythers lived in Franklin County in the 1860 census with his wife and his mother. He was a blacksmith in both Wythe and in Franklin Counties.

Charles Smythers b 1815

Nancy Smythers b 1824

NOTE: I have included this information because of the information you mentioned in your message on Carroll County GenForum. This really is a mystery because another researcher indicated that Bluford was black?????

I would be glad to exchange information if you like. and the address for Saford Landreth is::

S. H. Landreth
Salem, VA 24153

My email is:

I forgot to mention the only children shown for Bluford and Keziah are: Stephen Daniel Smythers b 1830, m Jane Arnold b 1833.
