After some searching in Census records, I've been able to piece some of the Power/Powar/Powers puzzle together.
As mentioned before, I'm descended from the Powers line in two ways: through Abner B. Powers and Sarah Spraggins' daughter Pauline (b. abt 1842)(married to William J. Ellis)and secondly through Albert T. Powers' son also named Abner B. Powers (b. 1854)who married Amanda Taylor. All these people show up in the Casey County, Kentucky Censuses.
Both Abner B. Sr and Albert T. show their birthplace as Virginia in all Censuses. The only other Powers'heads of households listed in, for example, the 1860 Casey County Census were William A. Power b. 1821 VA, AB Power b. 1812, VA, Albert Powers b. 1819 VA, Wm. H. Powers b. 1782 Virginia and Samuel M. Powers b. 1808 VA. Going back to 1850 only Abner (b.1812) and William (b. 1782) are listed, with William having boys at home which match the ages for William and Albert. in 1840, it's just William with 3 boys at home and Samuel. Again, these are the only Powers in Casey County.
A clue to their Virginia origins comes in the 1860 census with the birthplace of William A. (b. 1821) as Campbell Co. Virginia. A check of the 1830 Campbell Co. Virginia Census lists a William Powers with boys matching in age to William A., Samuel, Abner & Albert as well as a girl age 10-15 and a woman aged 40-50. William is also listed in the 1820 census with 4 boys and a girl and a woman aged 26-45. They were living next to a Margaret Power(William's widowed mother??) who was also living with a male 16-25 and 2 females, 1 16-25 and 1 26-44.
These Campbell County, Virginia connections as well as the Casey County, Kentucky Powers grouping need to be confirmed. Any info welcome!
