Hughes Family of Albemarle/Buckingham

My grandfather Hughes used to tell us that our great, great, great, great grandfather John Hughes had a farm on the James River near the old rubber plant in what is now Buckingham County. This 4th great grandfather apparently moved to Alberene in Albemarle County in the early 1800's and that's where his children and my 3rd great grandfather also named John Hughes (m. Elizabeth Ann Proffitt) were born. The early John Hughes married Mary (Polly) Williams Jeans. I can find no record of this family except a marriage for John Hughes and Mary (Polly) Williams Jeans.

Can anyone tell me where a rubber plant was in Buckingham County. Does anyone know anything about the Hughes or Jeans family. I would really appreciate any help I can get.
