Major Oakes and John Oakes of Buckingham County VA

If anyone out there is researching Oakes who may have passed through or lived in Buckingham County at any time, please drop me an email. I have proof that a Major Oakes and John and Kitty Oaks are buried in Buckingham County VA, but cannot link them to the rest of my geneology due to burned records. There are 12+ slate gravestones on the side of a mountain in Buckingham County. In census reports 1810-1850 The Wade's of buckingham County lived next door, but a man named Mr. Carter who is 84 yrs old says that the Carter's lived next door to the Oakes. We think our Major Oakes/Oaks came from Prince William County, VA, but we have not proven this. Our Oakes line is related to the Woodalls of Prince Edward County, and the Carters, among others. Thanks!
Amber Oakes
