Vicki- Although ny Phillips line came form Brunswick Co. (GGGGG GF Joseph Phillips died 1777 in Brunswick) I researched Phillips families in Southside VA counties for the Phillips DNA Project and found that one record might be in one county, others might show up in adj. counties, particularly if the party lived near to the county lines. Since Brunswick was formed in part from Pr. George, Surry and Isle of Wight, and Sussex and Southampton were also formed from some of those some counties your ancestors could be from anyone of them. I know the Masons were prominent in Surry Co.; even in the 1600's and I recall running across the Wynne/Winn name also.

There is a map that I used for some of my work that covers most of Southside VA. It was made during the Civil War and shows every landowner by name. If that would be on interest let me know and I will give you the info to pull it up (it is a Library of Congress map)and is interactive so you can move around to the area or county of interest.

Rex
