Hi Rex,

So good to hear from you and trust you enjoyed a great Thanksgiving. I'm still researching James Mason who married Polly Hancock 1808 Brunswick Co. and find he is missing from the Rutherford Co. TN records just prior to the 1830 Census. Also, that is he, James Mason, son of Christopher Jr. as a witness to the will of Jordan House.
(Also, the younger Jordan House married Martha J. Mason 19 Dec 1835 Brunswick Co. Martha's parents were William Mason and Peggy Jones. William Mason a son of Joseph Mason and Elizabeth Watson and Joseph a brother to Christopher Mason Jr.)

We have an exact match on the Mason DNA Site between a descendant of Littleberry, son of Christopher Mason Jr. and another male. I do believe this other male is a direct descendant of James Mason and Peggy Hancock. Can say that this person's ancestry bears the name of James Mason as a first son beginning next door in Williamson Co. TN for several generations.

I'm also hoping to prove that Martha James christened 1761 Sussex Co. was the one who married Christopher Mason Jr. This probably comes as quite a surprise to several but we have the James family with Christopher and Martha in many documents. Martha christened Albemarle Parish 1761 also had a brother named Edwin James christened 1754. Then Christopher Jr. and Martha also named a son Edwin Mason. The only other time I have an Edwin Mason in the files is in 1833 Sumner Co. TN when Joseph Mason & Susan Durham named their son Edwin R. Mason. This Joseph Mason also a son of Christopher Jr. and Martha.

I completely agree with your thoughts that the Thomas Moore line married into your Phillips line. You note the name Thomas Moore Phillips and Elizabeth Moore Kelly.

My second great grandfather was David Newsom that first married Patty Whitehorn and had sons Nathaniel, William and THOMAS MOORE NEWSOM. Then Patty died and David married secondly Elizabeth Ann Whitehorn and they the parents of Sarah Ann and Eliza Jane Newsom. Eliza married Thomas R. Mason, son of Henry and grandson of Christopher Mason Sr. David Newsom was a son of Nathaniel Newsom and Susanna Moore. Susanna a daughter of Thomas Moore Sr. and Mary Barham. Thomas Moore Newsom, Eliza's half brother (and also second cousin since their mothers were first cousins) became a Methodist Episcopal Minister, married Priscilla Prince and they resided over in Southampton Co.

James and Polly Mason are in the 1820 Census of Rutherford Co. and James is shown in other documents including as Special Guardian and then both he and Polly simply disappear prior to the 1830 Rutherford Co. Census. I'll post a couple of the court documents from Rutherford below and as you know Francis Hancock is Polly Mason's brother:

March 31, 1826 Francis Hancock, guardian of his daughter Caroline, received $529.99 from Allen and Cary James, administrators of estate of William James, deceased---$320 is in hands of guardian for support of grandmother Sarah Hancock

April 4, 1826 Book 6, p 200 Guardian return (deceased not mentioned) Francis Hancock is appointed guardian of wards, Mary A. Edwards and Sally B Edwards with special guardian James Mason

I'm now going through the microfilmed records of Rutherford in hopes we have missed something. If you might have any suggestions I surely would welcome them.

Carolyn
