Have you looked at Reeves family of (Bertie) now Halifax Co., NC? In 1729 William Reeves was original patent holder for land on Plumtree Island (now Mush Island) next to Weldon, NC. Several of the inhabitants of Plumtree and Weldon were on road gangs in Brunswick Co. during early to mid-1700's. Also, Reeves family and several others such as Colson, etc., owned land in both Bertie and Brunswick and "will" of Joseph Colson was registered in both Bertie, NC and Brunswick, VA.

William Reeves of Plumtree Island originally lived in Albemarle Co., NC. That's where he lived when he got patent.
