Some family members think Hartwell (Heartwell) Hitchcock, aka Capt. Hitchcock, was born in England in the late 1700's. I haven't been able to confirm this. Another possiblity is that he is the son of John or Ussery Hitchcock of Dinwiddie County VA. He is listed in the tax records of Dinwiddie county starting in 1805. He married Frances Atkinson, of Brunswick County VA, in 1818. They had 5 children, Mary Adora Hitchcock, Cleopatra Susan Hitchcock, Sally Anne Hitchcock, William Atkinson Hitchcock, and John Hartwell Hitchcock. Hartwell died in the fall of 1835 in Dinwidde County. His wife may have remarried to a Butler of Dinwiddie County.
I'm looking for Hartwell's parents but am also interested in any info about his children and their families.
Children info:
John Hartwell Hitchcock married Eleanor Whiteside and they lived in Seven Pines/Fairoaks VA.
Cleopatra Hitchcock married James B. Richmond in 1850.
William Atkinson Hitchcock married Louisa Williamson Heath in 1868. They lived on his father's farm in Dinwiddie County VA.
Any info will be appreciated.
