Helen, I believe the John McKinney of Rutherford Co., NC to be brother to my William of Tryon Co, 1775. William was on Ivy Creek in Bedford Co.,VA in 1762. William moved from Tryon to Burke Co., NC by 1789, or before. I found in a local genealogy book(Heritage of the Toe River Valley, by Dr. Lloyd Bailey)a reference to the following Hix family: Sarah Hix d/o Samuel Hix who was born in Goochland VA in 1753.Samuel died in Valle Cursis(near Boone, NC), 1835. The father of Samuel was David , whose will is in the NC Archives. David was a ggrandson of Samuel Hix, who was an indentured servent. Samuel came to Va. in 1637, to work for a Rhea family. Charlotte
