Was your John Reid ever living in Madison County in state of Illinois? My ancestor Robert K. Crawford in July 1836 appointed "John Reid of Madison County and State of Illinois my true and lawful attorney for me and in my name to bargain sell convey and receive all demands due or whatsoever may be coming to me from the estate of my father William CRAWFORD who departed this life in Botetourt County and State of Virginia on the 15th day of February A.D. 1835......."

At the time of this document R.K. Crawford was living in Ralls County, MO but this document was also recorded in the Index to Deeds in Botetourt Co. VA Bk. 22 page 35V.

I've never seen a document in Botetourt County where Reid was acting as power of attorney, but then again, I didn't check the indexes under the Reid name either (a bad mistake on my part!).

I don't know of a fmaily connection between REID & my Botetourt County CRAWFORDS.

Can you shed any light on this?? I don't now if your John Reid is one in the same as the John Reid in the above document either. But his age is close to that of my Robert K. Crawford born 1798 in Botetourt Co. VA.

Thanks,

Joanne
