I am researching a Minich family which came from Botetourt Co. The info. I have is that the branch I seek spelled their name MINICH. However I have found what seem to be relatives who use a variety of spellings. Here is what I found in the 1850 census.
This is LDS film 029,711. All below were on page 104, Weston Distr. No. 8. Spelling is as I read from the handwriting:
104A, Line 9
Minnich, Catherine 50 no details
Dorie, Elizabeth 50
Marthey, Francis 60(I forgot to note if male or female)
104A, Line 23
Minich, Isaac 28, wagon maker
Mary I. (or J.) 4
George W. 2
104B, Line 23
Minich, Michael 52 wagon maker $670
William E. 8
Rebecca V. 6
I have been told by a descendant that Isaac is one of Michael's sons. My interest is in daughter Rebecca V. who as an adult went by the name of Virginia. She married 1st to Leander Kale. They went to KS, had 3 children. But by 1880 census, Virginia was back east, widowed, living in Hamblen Co., TN with an older sister.
In about 1894 Virginia married Sylvester Wingo of Giles Co. VA. They then settled in Newport News, VA.
If this seems to be part of your family I'd greatly appreciate any earlier lineage.
