Does anyone know the location of "Fountain Blue" which belonged to the Beales in 1822? Does it still exist? I have a reference to it as follows:
From "History of the Beale-Steinbergen [sic] and Skillern Families - As given me by my maternal Grandmother Margaret Beale Gatewood in 1882" which was written by Kate Eliza Bias Cowan in August of 1921. This is the relevant section:
"Margaret Skillern Beale married [Francis] Warwick Gatewood of 'Mountain Grove,' Bath County, VA. A son of William Gatewood (formerly of Essex County, VA. Late of Bath County, VA) by his second wife, Jane Warwick. Margaret Skillern Beale married at eighteen from her father's residence in Botetourt County called 'Fountain Blue,' now known as the Pettigrew place. Two or three years after Warwick Gatewood's marriage his maternal grandfather - Jacob Warwick - gave them the big spring property on Elk River in Pocahontas County, WV, in which county Jacob Warwick lived at Clover Lick, provided they would live on it, which they did for two years, securing the deed. After their grandfather's death, they removed to the Warm Springs, VA (the Dangerfield House.) Afterwards sold it and bought 'Belle Vue' on the Cowpasture River, in Bath County, VA, where he spent the remainder of his life. Dying at the Red Sweet Springs November 2, 1863, and buried at the Warm Springs."
