Hi Lynne, Nice to meet you! What a fun research trip to Botetourt County! First let me say that your Moses Baker is not related to my ancestors as far as I know. Good luck hunting for him. If you did not meet her, Loretta Caldwell is a researcher from the Circuit Court Clerk's office in Botetourt County and does a wonderful job tracing your relatives. The Caleb Bakers are so many they are confusing. Starting in Prince Edward County in 1741, with my 5th great-grandfather, Caleb Baker Sr. there have been as many as three living at one time. It WAS my great-great grandfather Caleb C. Baker who married Lucy Cooper 3 Oct 1821 in Botetourt County, VA and I have their wedding docs from the County. She was his second wife, his first wife, Miss Hannan, dying before 1820, leaving him a widow with three young girls. My Caleb C. Baker and Lucy Cooper Baker left Botetourt County by early 1826, having sold their land on Back Creek to Martin Faris in November of 1825. Shortly after that they moved to Tenn, then Ohio, finally to Iowa in 1851. Caleb C. Baker died in Linn County, Iowa in 1853. His Lucy Baker died in Andrew County, Mo 31 Aug 1872. The Caleb Baker III who died in Botetourt County 23 Feb 1835 is the son of Caleb Baker Jr. of Prince Edward County and Catherine Hodnett. Caleb Baker Jr. was the brother of my direct descendant,Samuel Baker. My Samuel was b about 1721 in Chester County, Pa and d 16 Mar 1782 in P.E.C. The other Caleb Baker you refer to of Botetourt County, b 1798 and d 24 May 1855 and buried at Fincastle Presbyterian, from my understanding of it, was the son of Absalom Baker He became a ward of Josiah Arms after his father died, if I recall around 1814. This Caleb married Polly Bare 21 Sept 1822. He isn't my relative. You are welcome to pass this onto the ladies who were helping you at Botetourt County if you'd like to help in their confusion. Like I said, these Calebs are very confusing. I am working on my Baker History and will be sending a copy to Prince Edward, Bedford and Botetourt Counties when finished. Please let me know if I can be of further help to you. Jan Notify Administrator about this message?
