Seeking information on Charles and Paulina (Polina) Thompson in the 1870 Amsterdam, Botetourt Census. They had five children by that time, the birth record for their one son, Amos, lists him as being born in 1872 in Fincastle. Starting with the 1880 census their last name is Thomas. All I know about Charles is that he was likely a slave or free person of color. Was skilled as a blacksmith and traveled the country side for most of the year. In 1870 they are living next to an Elijah Thomas. Trying to figure out if they were brothers. Also hoping to learn that if Charles was a slave, what plantation he came from.
