This is exciting. I decided to try and find out more on Samuel Baker who was married to Mary Hodnett. I happened to look at the 225 page Bedford County Va Chancery case Burkett Gray vs the Exec. of John Lamont in 1844. In the case is testimony regarding a land boundary dispute by Henry Baker, their son. He mentions in a disposition that his father bought land from Israel Christian, who patented the land in 1773, and he also gave the information that Samuel Baker died "interstate" (meaning without a will) on page 67 and 68. That's great to know since I had checked with both Clerk of Courts in Bedford and Botetourt Counties and neither showed a will for Samuel Baker Sr.
On page 179 and 180 is the deed going from Israel Christian to Samuel Baker on 18 Aug 1783. In 1788 he sold part of this land to Arthur Robinson. Witnesses include another brother Robert Baker and Dan Stockton.(who was married to the sister of my Mary Ferrall who married Glover Baker.)
On page 175 and 176 is a copy of land sold on 11 August 1828 to Henry Baker of Botetourt County VA $50.00 for 100 acres on Bore Auger Creek, branch of the Goose Creek, of land original 350 acres patented by Israel Christian and 100 acres of that going to Samuel Baker; this land sold to Henry Baker by the rest of the heirs of Samuel Baker. (his brothers and sisters) who named in the suit are Samuel Baker Jr and his wife Betsy of Botetourt County, VA; Abraham Baker and Vicy of Bedford County VA, Nancy Amyx and James Williams and his wife Polly of the state of Tennessee.
And also by the land of the heirs of Absolom Baker;
I have copies of these documents if you want to e-mail me privately at firstname.lastname@example.org I will attach to you. I have Nadine's e-mail so will e-mail directly about this.
