I'm not sure, Eleanor. I am trying to find a crack in a brick wall I've been butting up against for many years. My first identified VAUGHN ancestors are in Florida when I know about them. According census record they were born in Virginia:
John Joseph Vaugh, b. abt. 1816 in Virginia; d 3 July 1851, Harrison County TX.

Jeremiah Benjamin, b. abt. 1817 in Virginia; d. abt. 1855 in Tx.

Martha Jeanette, b. about 1826 in Virginia; m. William Nix, Pensacola FL abt. 1839; d. abt.a 1864 in Pensacola.

John Joseph is my direct ancestor, though his son John Beasley Vaughn. I have this line down to present generations, but have been unable to break through to the next earlier generation. I do not know if there were other sibblings who remained in Virginia, nor do I know how these three got to Florida. They were there before 1843, which was Florida Territory days; records are very scarce from that era.

If any of this rings a bell with you, I'd appreciate knowing about it. Thanks. JOHN BUSH
