Hello, not sure this is of any help with your questions but there is within Chalkley's Chronicles a court case that may shed some light. It reads:
Section 2, pg 210-219 Fletcher vs. Davis's representatives-0.5.293;N.S.104-- James McCampbell married a daughter of Robert Davis of Rockingham and moved to KY. Will of Robert Davis of Rockingham: Wife Nancy, children, James, Nancy B., Annes, John, Robert, Samuel, Ruth, brothers: James, and Walter, Dated 11th, Sept 1804

Note: this is the only time I recall seeing the name Campbell spelled with Mc before it. ???
