HYSAW, HAYSAW, HISAW, HISAU, HIGHSAW family Augusta Co. 1770s

  of 1573

Andrew HYSAW served in Lord Dunmore' War 1774 from Augusta. He applied for compension in 1775. Wife's name Mary. In 1777 he bought land from Francis and Isabella (McGowen?)Berry, witnessed by William and Rebekah McPheeters. Sold most of the land 6 mon. later to Moses HAYES.
Had relatives Frederick, Diderick, Henry HYSAW in Botetourt (1772-1779) and Rockbridge in Capt. Hall's Co. 1779. Has anyone run into this family name in the old records? They later migrated to Burke Co., NC...connected to James HAYES, son of George and Sarah Dyer HAYES EDMISTON family which also migrated to Burke. Any info. appreciated as this family name is not found anywhere in the world before Augusta Co. colonial times, so the name has obviously evolved from something else. (possibly HAYSE)or a German equivalent???? Susan Hollis, hysaw@msn.com
