Royal Mines at Four Mile Run, Arlington VA

Several of the land grants and land patents of early Arlington County, then Stafford & Fairfax County list the Royal Mines of Four Mile Run where they apparently mined for lead, copper, coke, tin & iron. These mines were probably important during the American Revolution. Does anyone know the history of the Royal Mines?
