Ballards of Amherst

I am researching the Ballard family of Amherst, VA. The line I am from is John Ballard b. 1772(Albemarle or Amherst) d. aft 1850 (m.1801 in Amherst to Nancy D. Goolsby(b.1785)1801). He is listed on federal census records as living in Amherst County from 1810 to 1850. He had about 11 children:

Samuel Goolsby Ballard (1801)
John H. (1805)
Eliza (1812)
Jane (1817)
Adrian (1816)
Nancy (1818)
Thomas(1819)
James (1824)
Leroy (1828)

I am hoping to narrow down where they lived in Amherst and where John Ballard is burried. Close families where Dodd, Goolsby and Floyd. He may have lived near Nelson County because 1820 census places him there.

If anyone has any information regarding these Ballard's, I would greatly appreciate the help.

Thanks,
Sue
