Rhoday (Rhody, Rhoda or Betsy) Morris married John Phillips on December 19, 1797, in Amherst County, Virginia. Rhody's guardian Beverly Williamson and John Phillips' mother Ann Phillips consented to the marriage.
They had a son named Matthew Phillips in about 1799 who married Nancy Woodey in 1816 and after she passed away (maybe in childbirth) he married Nancy Bailey in 1826 Both marriages were in Albemarle County. Matthew Phillips and Nancy moved to Warren County, Kentucky, where she died in 1838.
The following is an abstract of a guardian bond for Rhody or Rhoda when her father died probably in 1791 in Amherst County.
RHODA MORRIS -- Book 3, Page 193 -- Guardians Bond -- Beverly Williamson and Cornl. Sale, July 4, 1791, for Beverly Williamson as guardian of Rhoda Morris, orphan of Jas. Morris. From "The Wills of Amherst County, Virginia 1761-1865," by Rev. Bailey Davis.
I may have found Rhody's father, James Morris, on Alexander Brown's list as having served for Albemarle (Amherst) or Bedford in the French and Indian War. This from the Alexander Brown papers in the Special Collections Department, Swem Library, College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, VA.
We have a DNA match between a descendant of Matthew and Nancy Phillips with a descendant (actually my brother) of my 3x great grandfather Matthew Phillips (c1750 Albemarle County). We know we are related but just need to confirm the names of the children of John Phillips and Rhody Morris.
I really would appreciate a little help. Thanks.
