Hughes Family Research Using DNA

We need descendants of the several lines of Hughes family in the Amherst County, Virginia, area to take the DNA test. We have results of one DNA test of a New Kent County Hughes descendant. We believe our Hughes line (Albemarle and Amherst/Nelson) descends from the New Kent or Hanover County Hughes family. From the records we can find, we believe our Hughes family migrated from New Kent to Henrico and them up the James River to Albemarle. One branch stayed in Albemarle and the other moved to Amherst County.

If you are a straight-line male descendant of Moses Hughes (Amherst) or his brother William Hughes (Albemarle at the James River), your DNA testing is important for our research. For further information, please visit the Family Tree Hughes DNA Surname Project at:

http://www.familytreedna.com/name_search.aspx

Please contact me by email if you are interested in the Hughes Surname DNA Project (email: vapsmith@ntelos.net). I have been working on my Hughes family in Virginia for a long time. Because so many records are lost, the paper record trail is not available. We are having good results with the DNA analysis.
