Hello Sue. There is a book entitled "Amherst County, Virginia in the Revolution" by Lenore Sweeny, which is supposed to contain about Amherst County residents who served during the war.I confess to as not having yet read it myself; but I'm sure you could find it through I know it was out of print for a long time, and then re-published in the early 1990s).It might interest you to know that the 1785 US Census for Amherst County VA lists a John Stennett as head of a household of 10 persons. You might also check with your local chapter of the DAR to see if your John Stinnett (or Stennett) has already been registered as a patriot by one of his descendents.I hope this helps.
