This is quite a bit later than the original posted message, but I too am trying to sort out the Bains. The name"Johnson" appears to be too unusual to appear in two different Bain families, and the Johnson Bain born in 1779 in Fluvanna County, VA and the Johnson Bain born in 1797, born in KY, are too much of a coincidence for me. Could the earliest Johnson (born c. 1740) possibly be a brother to the Robert Edward Bain (son of Peter) who was also born in Virginia? Does anyone know of any connections for these Bains. To make it even more confusing there was a Peter Bain from the Albany, NY area who was born c. 1740 in Scotland.
