I am searching for information on Sherod Moore Gillespie and trying to determine if he is one of my ancestors.
He was the son of George Gillespie and Mary Moore.
Sherod was the 2nd of 12 children. He was born in Albemarle, VA about 1755.
He married Sally (Sarah) Horsley on 12 Feb 1778 in Amherst, VA.
He shows up in Amherst census and tax lists until 1820.
I have him as a signing witness on a marriage as late as 1822:
Record 266 : Aug 31, 1822
Groom : Moses Rucker
Bride : Narcissa Gillaspie
SW : Landon Tooley(Tuley)
: B. Davies
: Sherid M. Gillaspie
I believe that Narcissa was Sherod's daughter.
I have no official documentation on who his children are, but I have found them in various places listed as:
Roland Gillespie
Bolling Gillespie
James Gillespie
Sally Gillespie
Lucy Gillespie
Tilton (Tarlton) Gillespie
Willis Gillespie
Elizabeth Gillespie
Narcissa Gillespie
If anyone has information on this particular Gillespie or Sally Horsley, I would greatly appreciate it.
