Seeking Information on Furniture & Paintings of Charles T. Thompson

Folks with ties to Amherst County (VA) are busy preparing articles and photographs to be included in the upcoming volume of the Amherst County Heritage book.
In the process of writing an article on my grandfather, Charles Taliaferro Thompson (Charlie), I have had numerous discussions with other family members concerning the location of some of his work. Charlie Thompson worked in his family’s brick masonry business until his retirement around 1946. At that time, he further immersed himself into his woodworking and furniture-making hobby. He was fascinated by making antique reproductions of such pieces as writing arm chairs and Eli Terry clocks. Many of these pieces have remained in our family and others were made for various friends of his.
In the late 1950s, Papa Charlie suffered a stroke rendering him paralyzed on one side. At that time, he turned to oil painting as a means of keeping vital and alert. These paintings depicted a variety of locations throughout Amherst and Nelson Counties as well as other historical events and nature scenes. Again, these paintings were mainly for family and friends. He donated others to local government offices and the public schools.
During our family conversations about the furniture and paintings, I have developed an interest in locating some of his works. Perhaps he personally gave on to you; perhaps you’ve inherited one from your relatives; or perhaps you’ve purchased one from an estate sale. Both furniture and paintings have the marking “CTT” and the year it was produced.
If you have any of these pieces and would like to share the story of how you acquired them and where they are today, I would love to hear from you. I am interested in including a “catalogue” of the works in our family history to be used for personal reference only.
