You're asking the same questions that I've asked for years! (And pardon my delayed response--I haven't had time for much gen research for the last couple of years, so I'm very out of the loop with this!!)
The best GUESS that I have now re: Samuel W. Anderson's family is that they were from Maryland. Reason I'm saying this is that Samuel W. Anderson married a Lyon woman. Much earlier, before the Lyons moved from MD to VA, there were Lyon wills and deeds witnessed by an Anderson family up there. I feel that the families were connected then, and Samuel's marriage into it kept this association going once they moved to Virginia.
I've received some documents from Lyon researchers that seem to support this THEORY, but as yet I don't have any proof that will allow me to move Samuel's line backwards.
Perhaps this summer I'll be able to (finally!) do some more research!
