Thank you very much.
I don't know why I hadn't thought of the cemetery records!
Rachel is buried in Fairview Cemetery in Buchanan. She was reported to have been living with a sister in the Grayledge area of Botetourt Co. (close to Buchanan) when she died in 1918. With a death that recent I have great hopes of finding a funeral record.

A friend got me a copy of the marriage license of Rachel Mays from Amherst Co. C.H. It also stated she had not been married before. Their ages were very close to those of my Rachel and Archibald. I haven't given up on it completely. There were a lot of "funny" things going on with this family.
I guess it's one of those blind alleys we encounter occasionaly.

I wonder if her death would have been in the Lynchburg paper?
I found the account of my GGF's death in the Lynchburg paper. He was accidently shot and killed by his father-in-law in 1876. (Bedford Co.)

Thanks again. I do appreciate your response.
