Todd-
The Amelia County Historical Society is within one block (it maybe right across the street, I can't remember) from the courthouse. They have a good deal of information there, but are staffed by volunteers, so their hours are limited. Your best bet is to call ahead to see when they are open. They have published a couple of books, one called "Historical Notes on Amelia County, Virginia" which I purchased for $25.

The ladies at the courthouse are also very helpful with birth, death, and marriage records, as well as deeds and wills, etc.
