Amelia County resources help!!!!

I live in NC but if I were to visit Amelia county where my ancestors lived 200 years ago where would I go to research? The county libraray etc? where is that etc. I am searching the Ford family and they moved away from there around 1785-1795, George Ford and Frederick Ford are prominent I think. Any help and direction would really be appreciated. Todd
