i can't tell you how this ties in but i found a william who married a nancy sorrel march 19 1812 in rockbridge county which is right beside alleghany county. he had a sister i believe not sure named polly leighton who married a thomas sorrels five years later. then a william sorrel married a sarah leighton june 15 1835 in botetourt county. I also found a John Leighton who married a Rebecca Adams in 1828 botetourt county. the earliest John leighton i could find was in alleghany county 1830. does this help any?
